Tidal Pendant #5
These are a popular design I have made for years, and I still adore creating them. Each one is one of a kind, each one is a tiny world to lose yourself in.
I create a large, 1″ across glass focal piece, with swirling color and worlds within the translucent half, invoking the ocean’s shore, tidepools, and the abundant life and mystery of the sea.
The other half I combine with .999 fine silver leaf, and is rich in creamy hues, the sandy edge of the ocean, the rocky shore and striations of time the sea has brought to the coast.
In my next step, I accent the piece with glass dots, bubbles, and other decorations, and place it in the kiln. It digitally anneals for over 11 hours to room temperature.
For the final process, I put the piece through the paces of oxidation and polishing, bringing out the warm tones in the copper, and placing it on a sterling silver bail, to be worn on an 18″ sterling silver chain.
The result: a treasured art jewelry piece that you can lose yourself in forever.
Materials: Glass, fine silver leaf, sterling silver.
